(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant David Woody, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action during a two hour battle near Modjex, El Bab, Tunisia, during World War II. Sergeant Woody’s machine gun, protected by several riflemen, was covering a ridge over which the Germans charged, causing the order to pull back. Unaware of the order, Sergeant Woody stayed at his post firing with such accuracy that he destroyed two enemy mortars and inflicted severe casualties upon wave aver wave of enemy infantrymen attacking his position, until his ammunition was exhausted, and then he escaped by ducking form one slit-trench to another while under fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
