The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Jack E. Ross, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 128th Field Artillery, 6th Armored Division in France, on 1 August 1944. Encountering enemy machine gun fire he dismounted, attempted to neutralize the enemy with hand grenades and small arms fire, and then proceeded to a point where he could direct fire on the position and thus accelerate the advance of his unit. His resourcefulness and bravery are a credit to him and the Armed Forces of the United States.
