The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Gust Rosin (ASN: 37028826), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 6th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Montalban area, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 24 February 1945. The infantry platoon to which Technician Rosin was attached as Medical Aid Man underwent a severe shelling by heavy enemy mortar fire. Despite the fact that he was one of the first casualties and was bleeding profusely from shrapnel wounds, Technician Rosin did not take time to treat himself but rushed from position to position giving aid to the wounded men, some of whom were less seriously wounded than himself. He then organized emergency litter squads and had the wounded men carried to a battalion aid station. By this time, he had lost so much blood from his wounds that he passed into a state of unconsciousness. Technician Rosin’s gallantry was instrumental in saving the lives of several of his comrades. His display of courage and outstanding performance of duty reflect highest credit upon himself and the military service.
