Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 147 (July 20, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Aaron Rogoff (ASN: 32610608), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 September 1944 in France. When after a withdrawal by his unit due to intense enemy fire, Sergeant Rogoff learned that a man lay seriously wounded close to enemy positions, he volunteered to attempt a rescue. Crawling forward under a storm of enemy rifle and machine gun fire, he was three times pinned down, but succeeded in reaching the wounded man. So violent was the enemy fire that he was forced to crawl face down back to friendly positions, dragging the man with him as he went and undoubtedly saving his life. The courage and determination exhibited by Sergeant Rogoff reflect highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
