The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Jack Mazur (ASN: 44364), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fleville, France, 4 October 1918. Corporal Mazur led a squad of auto riflemen through intense enemy fire in an attack against an enemy machine-gun position. He rushed the position and killed or captured the gun crew. His action permitted the further advance of units of the battalion held up by the enemy fire.
