The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Charles F. Robison, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 2d Armored Division, in action against the enemy in France, from 24 July 1944 to 6 August 1944. On 2 August 1944, when the company was under heavy fire from numerous German tanks across the line of advance, Sergeant Robison’s tank broke through a hedgerow, bringing it to point-blank range with the enemy Mark V tank. He brought his gun to bear on the enemy tank and knocked it out before it could shoot at him and also saved other tanks in this platoon from being knocked out. His skill and continual alertness as gunner of the crew was of great assistance in engaging and destroying the enemy on many occasions and his superior gunnery accounted for many enemy vehicles. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Robison, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
