The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technical Sergeant Guy E. Robertson (ASN: 20457751), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 July 1944, in France. Technical Sergeant Robertson was serving as a Platoon Sergeant with an Infantry Company which had suffered considerable casualties due to determined resistance from the enemy, including heavy artillery and mortar fire. The platoon commander of his platoon was wounded and Technical Sergeant Robertson assumed command of the platoon. In an endeavor to take advantage of the temporary disorganization caused by their fire, the enemy launched a vigorous counterattack with tanks which threatened to engulf the company. Displaying superior qualities of leadership, Technical Sergeant Robertson maneuvered his men skillfully, effected a complete reorganization, and by great personal courage, encouraged and exhorted his companions to renewed efforts by moving from man to man. Although enemy tanks got so close they could be observed firing pointblank over the tops of the hedgerows, Technical Sergeant Robertson’s spirit of determination set an example for his men which prevented them from withdrawing and the enemy counterattack was repulsed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant Robertson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
