The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Beyrl B. Rinard (ASN: 35812303), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 January 1945, in Belgium. Private First Class Rinard made five trips to repair wire communications, each time in the face of artillery fire and small arms fire. During these trips he was constantly exposed and under fire, at one time advancing, while guiding a medic, to within twenty-five yards of an enemy tank. Private First Class Rinard’s unusual courage and initiative in laying the new lines was of extreme importance in that it assisted in the eventual stopping of the enemy attack. His actions throughout the entire period of this action set an outstanding example of bravery and determination. This courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
