The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant LeMar Rigmaiden (ASN: 39406972), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 463d Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 November 1944 in France. While guarding the right flank of his battery position a reconnaissance patrol was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire. Sergeant Rigmaiden hastily formed a combat patrol and led them to the aid of the beleaguered patrol. His patrol kept the enemy heavily engaged until a larger force came up and drove off the attackers. During the engagement Sergeant Rigmaiden charged an enemy machine gun position single-handedly, killing the gunner and forcing the others to withdraw. His gallantry and exemplary courage reflect highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
