The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Cecil C. Richardson (ASN: 36192715), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 July 1944, in France. During a fierce engagement with the enemy, Private First Class Richardson’s battalion ammunition supply was being dangerously depleted and a state of confusion reigned. Although several vehicles had already been destroyed by enemy fire, Private First Class Richardson volunteered to replenish the ammunition supply. Shells fell all around his vehicle and several times it was hit by enemy small arms fire but he courageously continued. He also picked up men who had been separated from their units and returned them to their guns. Private First Class Richardson’s courage and heroism in braving the intense enemy fire to supply his unit with ammunition reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
