The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Albert L. Richardson (ASN: 39232464), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with Battery A, 928th Field Artillery Battalion, 103d Infantry Division. On 17 March 1945 near Nehwiller, France, when a rifle company was subjected to heavy machine gun, mortar and artillery fire, forcing the men to withdraw, Private Richardson, forward observer, advanced 250 yards beyond the company to an advantageous position. Directing artillery fire, he neutralized an enemy strongpoint, enabling the company to continue its advance. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
