The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jack A. Reynolds (ASN: 31446707), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 84th Infantry Division during World War II. When two platoons entering a German-held town encountered heavy fire, Private Reynolds, disregarding his own safety, voluntarily manned a machinegun set up in the town’s main thoroughfare to give the units supporting fire. Later, when communication between these two platoons and the remainder of the company had been disrupted, Private Reynolds, despite intense enemy fire, voluntarily re-established communication. The tenacious determined spirit, unselfish action and cool courage displayed by Private Reynolds contributed materially to the attainment of his company’s objective. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
