The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Gordon R. Reupke (ASN: 0-1170158), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 15 July 1944, while serving with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in France. Captain Reupke gallantly moved to front line positions to deliver artillery fire ahead of friendly troops so that newly won ground could be consolidated. Although enemy artillery and mortar fire was falling directly on his position, he heroically refused to leave until he learned that the forward observer had the situation well in hand. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Reupke, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
