The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Clinton E. Restamayer (ASN: 0-1170159), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 August 1944, in France. Captain Restamayer was serving as a member of an artillery liaison party giving artillery support to a large force of attacking infantry. The enemy, in an attempt to stem the assault, opened fire and maintained a vigorous defense, their artillery causing the forward areas to be practically untenable. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Captain Restamayer moved forward in the face of the murderous fire in order to better adjust fire on the enemy targets, and remained in an extremely vulnerable position until the hostile opposition had been virtually eliminated, which allowed our forces to continue their assault. Largely, as a result of his personal courage and outstanding leadership, an important tactical mission was successfully completed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Restamayer, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
