Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 55 (September 13, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Ira C. Recs (ASN: 33048218), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 31 July 1944, in France. Private First Class Recs was assigned to duty as an automatic rifleman with an infantry assault group engaging the enemy. The forward advance of the attacking forces was brought to a standstill by very severe enemy fire from well dug in positions. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Private First Class Recs voluntarily moved forward alone in the face of hostile fire to a position from which he could direct his fire into the enemy strong points. He remained in this exposed position until severe wounds incapacitated him. His valiant actions at a time when the support of his fire power was of vital importance materially assisted in the successful capture of the objective. The personal bravery and determined devotion to duty reflected by the heroic conduct of Private First Class Recs reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service.
