The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Perry W. Reams (ASN: 37182889), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1944, in France. Technician Fourth Grade Reams was serving as a tank driver with a tank destroyer unit attempting to break through a strongly-held hostile defense line. In order to make a reconnaissance, his company commander dismounted from his tank and went forward on foot. The enemy laid down heavy mortar fire in an area which seriously wounded the officer. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Technician Fourth Grade Reams left the protection of his tank and rushed forward over open ground in the face of heavy hostile fire and evacuated the officer to a place of safety. This heroic action undoubtedly saved the life o the wounded officer. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fourth Grade Reams, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
