The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Daniel William Quinn, III (ASN: 0-17697), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 October 1944, in Germany. When his Regiment encountered difficulties in breaching the Siegfried Line, Lieutenant Colonel Quinn organized and led a task force flanking the enemy fortifications and relieving pressure on the attacking troops so that the Regiment was able to captured its objective expeditiously. The outstanding leadership and great valor displayed by Lieutenant Colonel Quinn on this occasion resulted in the accomplishment of a tactical victory of major importance. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Lieutenant Colonel Quinn reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
