The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Harold V. Priest (ASN: 15103079), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 752d Tank Battalion, 88th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 to 28 April 1945, near Vicenza, Italy. Corporal Priest led a tank attack upon the town after the tank commander and platoon leader had been hit. A gunner, he stood in the turret and rallied the tanks around him, leading them on. It was in this exposed position that he was killed by an enemy sniper. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
