The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class John E. Plaster (ASN: 37234604), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 84th Infantry Division, in action in Germany on 20 November 1944. When the advance of his platoon was halted by point-blank fire from an enemy tank, Private First Class Plaster, who was in a sheltered position, together with another soldier, voluntarily moved forward over open terrain under withering enemy fire to a position on the enemy’s flank in order to place rocket launcher fire on the tank. In the performance of this brave act, Private First Class Plaster lost his life. The disdain for danger, unswerving devotion to duty and exemplary conduct displayed by Private First Class Plaster reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
