The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Henry Darius MacNaughton, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Molain, France, 17 October 1918. Advancing for 100 yards under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, Captain MacNaughton went with a soldier to the aid of a wounded man who had a leg blown off by an antitank shell. Showing utter disregard for personal danger, Captain MacNaughton dressed the wound of the soldier, who had fallen near the tank which was still being shelled, and then carried the wounded man to safety.
