Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 152 (June 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) [then Second Lieutenant] Archie J. Piscitello (ASN: 0-1322170), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 November 1944, in Germany. When intense enemy machine gun fire halted the advance of his company and caused numerous casualties, First Lieutenant Piscitello, realizing that the attack must continue, gallantly moved to the head of his platoon and, urging his men to follow him, advanced on the machine gun. The enemy became demoralized by his heroic advance and hastily left their gun. First Lieutenant Piscitello’s company was then able to regain the momentum of its attack and seize the objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Piscitello, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
