The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Glenn W. Pierson (ASN: 42011818), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 April 1945, in Germany. Private First Class Pierson’s platoon was advancing through thick undergrowth when it was suddenly subjected to intense small arms fire by an enemy force which was dug in a short distance away. Realizing that covering machine gun fire directed against the enemy positions was the only mans of enabling the platoon to withdraw, Private First Class Pierson gallantly advanced with a light machine gun through the deadly fire concentrated on him toward a clearing in the undergrowth. Just as he reached the spot he was instantly killed by the enemy fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Pierson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
