The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Corps of Engineers) Charles Perlman (ASN: 0-1101162), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 5th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in France, on 10 September 1944. Captain Perlman, without regard for his own safety, proceeded alone and under heavy machine gun and artillery fire to a bridge over the Alzetto River in order to sever the cords to a high explosive with which the enemy was attempting to blow the bridge.
