The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Lincoln Perkins (ASN: 34837374), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 March 1945, in Germany. When the advance of Private First Class Perkins’ company was halted by intense enemy fire, a light machine gun section moved forward and placed fire on the enemy position. This action enabled the unit to advance, but the ammunition supply of the machine gun section was rapidly being depleted. Private First Class Perkins, although under fire, made his way to the rear and secured a load of ammunition. On his return trip he was observed by the enemy and seriously wounded by their fire but he courageously crawled the remaining distance to the machine gun section. Private First Class Perkins died a few minutes after completing his heroic mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Perkins, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
