The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Frank B. Pelkey, Jr. (ASN: 39282868), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 March 1945, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Pelkey ran through intense enemy fire to reach and cut a wire fence which held up his squad’s advance. He then led the squad in the face of the heavy enemy fire and helped destroy a machine gun position, killing four of the enemy and capturing two others. Technician Fifth Grade Pelkey’s gallantry in the face of extreme danger was a source of inspiration to all who observed him and was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
