The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Bedford B. Lunsford (ASN: 1309812), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 7 October 1918. When the line was held up by enemy machine-gun fire, Corporal Lunsford strapped an automatic rifle to his shoulder and advanced in the face of machine-gun fire. Firing as he went forward, he killed four of the enemy before he fell, nearly riddled with bullets.
