Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 166 (June 24, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Stanley A. Pauly (ASN: 42109920), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945, in Germany. When the men of his platoon started to panic as a result of heavy fire and casualties resulting from booby traps and anti-personnel mines, Sergeant Pauly gallantly moved into the lead and took over the position of first scout. Braving the danger of stepping on a mine at any moment, he led his platoon forward, feeling for trip wires as he went. Sergeant Pauly, by his heroic actions, brought the platoon to the objective without losing a man. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Pauly, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
