The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Benson C. Parrish, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 8th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 November 1944. Captain Parrish led his campaign in support of another Infantry regiment which was attacking strong enemy positions. After repeated efforts to advance had failed, Captain Parrish moved at the head of his men and directed their marching fire. His daring and great courage caused confusion in the enemy ranks and resulted in the overrunning of many enemy positions and valuable information was obtained concerning enemy positions and emplacements. Captain Parrish’s outstanding leadership and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
