The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Lee Kaplan (ASN: 32818427), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 20th Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division, in action at Ehringer, Germany, on 22 April 1945. When several soldiers were wounded by enemy fire, Private First Class Kaplan, a rifleman, courageously engaged the enemy with rifle fire, permitting the safe evacuation of his wounded comrades, but suffered mortal wounds himself in attempting to withdraw. His supreme devotion to duty reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military forces of the United States.
