    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Frank H. Owens (ASN: 20361950), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 August 1944, in France. Staff Sergeant Owens volunteered to attempt to knock out an enemy tank holding up the advance of his company. Equipped with a bazooka, he dashed across an open area under intense enemy fire. He took up a firing position and knocked out the tank with the first round. He displayed exceptional courage, coolness and determination throughout this mission. Staff Sergeant demonstrated ability and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
