    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Major and Surgeon Henry Remsen Tilton, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 30 September 1877, in action at Bear Paw Mountain, Montana. Major Tilton fearlessly risked his life and displayed great gallantry in rescuing and protecting the wounded men.
