The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Harold Bradford Oliver (ASN: 31232159), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 July 1944, in France. Sergeant Oliver was assigned to duty with an artillery unit in the capacity of scout. When the officer in charge of Sergeant Oliver’s section was killed, Sergeant Oliver immediately assumed the responsibilities of command, Constantly subject to enemy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire, Sergeant Oliver voluntarily risked his life in order to perform his duties in a superior manner, and in so doing was killed in action. The heroic self-sacrifice and aggressive leadership displayed by Sergeant Oliver reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
