The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Clyde H. Lindsey (ASN: 3489185), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 59th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-de-Brieulles, France, 29 September 1918. Disregarding personal safety, Private Lindsey, in the performance of his duties as runner, carried repeated messages across greatly exposed area, which was subjected to fierce artillery and machine-gun fire. He succeeded after another runner had been killed in the attempt.
