The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Malery Nunn (ASN: 38385536), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 823d Tank Destroyer Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 November 1944, in Germany. Sergeant Nunn was recovering two guns which were one hundred yards in advance of friendly positions and under enemy machine gun and artillery fire when he was severely wounded. Although he was badly in need of medical attention, he brought one of the guns into position where it succeeded in destroying an enemy tank and a vehicle loaded with ammunition. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Nunn, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
