The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Donald L. Norris (ASN: 35710129), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 6 August 1944 to 12 August 1944, in France. Despite his being repeatedly exposed to savage enemy fire during this period, Private First Class Norris kept a constant vigil over men wounded during a furious enemy counterattack, giving them all the aid possible. Risking the threat of capture, he remained with the men giving expert aid until ambulances arrived. Private First Class Norris’ gallant actions saved the lives of many of his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Norris, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
