Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 66 (October 1, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George D. Noble (ASN: 36196139), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 August 1944, in France. Private First Class Noble was assigned to duty with an infantry organization engaged in repulsing a vigorous enemy counterattack. During the attack many enemy tanks overran friendly positions. Private First Class Noble and a group of his comrades crawled over open terrain and though exposed to enemy fire from mortars, artillery, and small arms, they destroyed an enemy tank which threatened the command post. The daring, personal courage, and aggressive initiative displayed by Private First Class Noble reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
