The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Vollie W. Nicholson (ASN: 34372198), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 March 1945, in Germany. Technician Fourth Grade Nicholson was a member of a reconnaissance party whose mission was to reconnoiter the best route to a new position. Despite the grave danger from heavy artillery fire falling in the area, Technician Fourth Grade Nicholson, who was placed as a guide to clear his battalion through the area, refused to take cover but remained at his post. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fourth Grade Nicholson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
