The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Blair L. Mutimer, Sr. (ASN: 34835244), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 October 1944, in Germany. Private First Class Mutimer distinguished himself when his company was subjected to a strong counterattack by enemy tanks and infantry. Determined to halt a tank which was imperiling his company’s position, Private First Class Mutimer armed himself with a rocket launcher, dauntlessly advanced alone toward the enemy tank until he was within effective range, and fired three rounds at it. One of the projectiles struck the tank and glanced off, doing no damage. The other two, although missing the tank, exploded among the accompanying enemy infantrymen and caused fifteen casualties. Although he did not succeed in destroying the tank, Private First Class Mutimer’s courageous act so seriously impaired the enemy’s strength that his company was able to rout the remainder of the attacking force. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Mutimer, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
