The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Albert J. Muehlman (ASN: 0-1305293), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 November 1944 in France. When the attack order called for his company to take an enemy-held road junction on the road to Hagenau, Captain Muehlman personally led his men in a frontal assault. Despite intense enemy fire from well prepared defensive positions he bravely led his troops directly into the enemy positions, routing the hostile forces and successfully completing an exceedingly hazardous mission. His unswerving courage and inspirational leadership reflect highest credit on Captain Muehlman and the Armed Forces of the United States.
