The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Edwin P. Moser (ASN: 33112498), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 83d Reconnaissance Battalion, 3d Armored Division, in Germany on 27 February 1945. Sergeant Moser, with his squad, was advancing with the mission of securing a German town, when enemy artillery was laid down from the town slowing progress and inflicting casualties. Observation by the enemy was excellent from dug-in positions outside the town and from buildings within, but Sergeant Moser led his squad through the shell-torn fields into the town and the enemy gun positions were given to our artillery which knocked them out. He directed his squad through the town in the face of sniper fire to the outer edge and consolidated his squad until reinforcements could come to his aid. It was through Sergeant Moser’s fast and aggressive advance in taking this key position that the Task Force could complete its mission, His heroism and utter disregard for personal safety are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces.
