The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Nard L. Moseley, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 84th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Belgium, on 12 January 1945. When the assault platoon which he was leading in the absence of n officer came under intense enemy machine gun and automatic weapons cross fire, Sergeant Moseley skillfully withdrew his men from the trap and turned the unit over to his company commander. Enemy self-propelled guns then began firing on the unit killing the company commander and inflicting numerous casualties. Sergeant Moseley, though wounded by shrapnel and blinded in one eye, assumed command of the company, evacuated the wounded, and successfully led the unit back to friendly lines. The superior leadership, conspicuous courage and commendable conduct displayed by him reflects high credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
