The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major (Infantry) Christopher F. Lee, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, 25 October 1918. When his battalion had met with heavy artillery, machine-gun, and rifle resistance, and his troops were on the verge of becoming disorganized, Major Lee took the leadership of the front line platoon and charged the enemy. In this act he was so seriously wounded that he had to be evacuated.
