The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Jean H. Morris (ASN: 19143684), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 113th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 March 1945, in Germany. While serving with an artillery forward observation party, the infantry company which Corporal Morris’ party was accompanying was pinned down by intense enemy fire. He immediately went forward with a radio to a house which his officer was using for an observation post, even though the route he traveled was under direct enemy observation and fire. Corporal Morris’ heroic actions established communications and enabled his artillery to place immediate and effective fire upon the enemy guns, forcing those men who were not killed to withdraw and allowing the infantry to proceed and complete its mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Morris, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
