The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Agapito B. Morales (ASN: 39258546), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 August 1944, in France. Sergeant Morales waws serving as a squad leader with an infantry organization which was engaged in bitter fighting with a stubbornly resisting foe. Enemy fire scored a direct hit on a friendly tank, and caused it to burn. All of the occupants escaped except one who was trapped in the blaze. Without hesitation, and with complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant Morales mounted the tank, extricated the soldier, and dragged him to safety. By his daring, Sergeant Morales saved the life of a wounded comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Morales, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
