Henry Bingham was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Pennsylvania in 1872, 1876, 1884, 1888, 1892, 1896, and 1900. In 1879 he was elected to the US House of Representatives from Pennsylvania’s 1st District where he served 33 years through 17 successive Congresses from 1879 until his death in 1912. Bingham County Idaho is named for Henry Harrison Bingham.

    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain Henry Harrison Bingham, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 May 1864, while serving with Company G, 140th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action during the Wilderness Campaign, Virginia. Captain Bingham rallied and led into action a portion of the troops who had given way under the fierce assaults of the enemy.
