Headquarters, 103d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 170 (June 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Lester H. Moore, Jr. (ASN: 33858516), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 103d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Mulhausen, France, on 15 March 1945. When Private Moore saw members of his assault team hit by small arms fire, he immediately started crawling toward the source of the enemy fire. He approached to within 15 yards of the enemy emplacement, opened fire killing three of the enemy and forcing fifteen to surrender. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
