The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Cloyd Moore (ASN: 36984350), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 April 1945, in Germany. While Private First Class Moore an d a comrade were leading a group of forty enemy prisoners to the rear, an enemy sniper opened fire and killed Private First Class Moore’s companion. A short while later, another member of Private First Class Moore’s unit who marched up with twenty more prisoners was killed by the same sniper. Although he knew that the sniper was trying to kill him as well, Private First Class Moore courageously exposed himself to round up the entire group of prisoners and marched them back to the rear alone. As a result of his alertness and courage, not a single prisoner escaped. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Moore, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
