The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Dwight F. Lamson (ASN: 2189236), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 353d Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Limey, France, 12 September 1918. Seeing his lieutenant fall severely wounded, Private Lamson, with another stretcher bearer, rushed through severe machine-gun fire to his assistance. When they had placed the lieutenant on their stretcher and were endeavoring to go through the heavy fire to the dressing station, Private Lamson fell, mortally wounded.
