The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major (Infantry) Robert Jones Lamb, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. In command of a company, Major Lamb, with two other men, rushed a machine-gun post, which was holding up the advance, killing the German crew. Later, separated from part of his command owing to a dense smoke screen, he found himself with a few men in front of three German machine-gun nests. Leading the attack, he captured the enemy positions, with 25 prisoners.
