The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Earl Meeks (ASN: 34088915), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 January 1945, in Belgium. Technician Fifth Grade Meeks moved forward with two aid men through intense enemy fire and picked up two wounded members of a tank crew. Although one aid man was killed as he attempted to care for a wounded rifleman, Technician Fifth Grade Weeks gallantly braved the enemy fire to go to the aid of the wounded man and complete the evacuation of the tank members. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Meeks, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
